📄️ Networking
The following diagram illustrates our reference architecture. The physical components include the two NUC hypervisors, a NAS and the 192.168.1.0/24 network. All else is virtual, though some virtual machines bridge to the physical network (the DC, vCenter, and the course gateways)
📄️ Hypervisor Deployment
We have a chicken and egg problem. We can't really deploy ADDS until such time as we have a hypervisor to run it on. You could have a physical host with ADDS but let's leverage virtualization to the extent possible. The rough process will be
📄️ Storage
The Lab system is a consumer grade Synology DS216+II with Spinning Disks, I may upgrade to SSD or buy a QNAP NAS with 10G interfaces later
📄️ Active Directory
We have another chicken and egg problem. We need to build a server to host ADDS. We also need a Server 2019 Base VM. We are going to attempt to do both. Cloning is not yet an option because we don't have vcenter installed. The plan will be to fully build, update and sysprep a windows server. We will take a syprepped and powered off snapshot called Base and later extract that snapshot as a reusable standalone Base VM using PowerCLI.
📄️ Management
We still have some house keeping to do before we can install vCenter. We are going to
